This week, we had the opportunity to attend Social Media Week LA. The event, in its 7th year, brought together leading companies in entertainment, media, marketing, and technology. National Geographic, BuzzFeed, Forbes, VICE, LinkedIn, and more were in attendance. We were honored to be among them.
One of the stand-out moments from #SMWLA yesterday was Nat Geo’s talk from Chief Marketing and Brand Officer, Claudia Malley. She shared insights on how a 128 year-old brand continues to remain relevant as one of the most successful publishers in today’s media landscape. We learned about how Nat Geo uses the power of storytelling to emerge as the #1 most-engaged social brand today. It was also incredible to see Nat Geo team members Facebook Live from the top of Everest! If you don’t follow Nat Geo on Instagram, we highly advise you change that.
Another favorite from yesterday’s event was the VR presentation. Sundance came to the event to talk about the reincarnation of virtual reality, and they gave a first glimpse of the ongoing advances in VR. Sundance winner and Godmother of VR Nonny de la Peña presented her compelling work in immersive Journalism. She explained how she utilized VR technology to give viewers real experiences around the world, covering pieces on topics such as the Syrian migration and police brutality in the U.S.
#SMWLA created a content experience that provided us at Cashmere Agency, and those in attendance, with new ideas and insights in the social media space. So far, it has been an inspiring time. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the week has in store!
